Benefits

Eligible employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits program in which Norcal pays the full cost of most benefits. Our benefits provide coverage for eligible dependents, generally at no additional cost. In addition, we are proud to offer the same benefits to Qualified Domestic Partners that we offer to spouses.
The employee benefits program is made up of many parts and may include coverage for:
Medical Insurance: Our plans include valuable preventive care coverage, as well as prescription drug, and vision care programs. Most plans have a small co-pay.
Dental Insurance: We offer dental plans that provide 100% coverage for routine care as well as coverage for minor and major restorative care and orthodontia services.
Life Insurance: We provide basic life insurance at no cost to employees and their eligible dependents. We also offer optional employee-paid supplemental life insurance if our employees want additional benefits.
Disability Benefits: We provide a long-term disability plan that helps protect an employees' income while unable to work due to an illness or injury for an extended period of time. We also offer optional employee-paid buy-up long-term disability for additional income protection.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP): This program provides confidential professional assistance to employees and their eligible dependents in dealing with personal problems that may influence health, well-being or work effectiveness. It also provides dependent care referrals (child or adult day care, adoption resources, etc.) as well as legal assistance.
Defined Benefit Pension Plan: One of two Norcal sponsored retirement plans. The pension plan is fully paid for by Norcal. At retirement, eligible employees receive a benefit for their lifetime based on a set formula which considers the employee's total years of service.
Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): One of two Norcal sponsored retirement plans. The ESOP is fully paid for by the Company and provides eligible employees with shares of Norcal stock. This plan provides the opportunity for employees to become an employee owner.
Paid Time Off: We offer competitive paid time off policies. Eligible employees are provided with nine paid holidays per year and can earn up to two floating holidays per year. Eligible new hires can earn up to two weeks of vacation during their first year of employment. We also offer sick pay, jury duty pay, and pay for bereavement leave.
Educational Assistance: We encourage our employees to seek further career development and improved job effectiveness by providing reimbursement for education programs that relate to an employee's current or possible future job. Reimbursement is provided to eligible employees for 50% of covered expenses up to a maximum amount per calendar year.
Commuter Benefits: We encourage employees to use public transportation or other shared transport whenever possible when commuting to and from work. We offer eligible employees the opportunity to pay commuter costs related to their transit and parking on a pre-tax basis through payroll deductions. In addition, through our Commuter Benefits Plus program, we will help assist with costs by paying 50% of an eligible employee's commuter costs (through transit or vanpool) up to a set allowable maximum.
Employee Referral Program: We provide a referral award to eligible employees referring candidates for eligible positions who are subsequently hired.
